The end of the year is always stupid busy. Best part though, is that we are getting a whole lot of work done! Since we haven't been playing any shows recently, we've been preparing 3 seperate releases slated for 2014 (I am a million times geeked for each one).
First, I would love to say that our upcoming full length Susan B and Elizabeth C (which will be released via Whoa! Boat Records) is first on the list, but it is not. I know that we've been talking about it forever. This is my fault (Andy Beer's). I'm way too excited to not talk about it, but let's set the record straight here:
We were set to put out a 7" single with the guys at Whoa! Boat in the middle of 2013, and they offered to bump us up to a full length. We were thrilled. At the same time, we were offered to be a part of the first volume of Whoa! Boat's I-5 Corridor split. The priority was set and we took the time and effort to release the split. It was tons of fun, and feature's some of our very best friends in the scene. Additionally, everyone who came out and helped us celebrate this release on November 8th, you will have my gratitude for ever. If you haven't, you should absolutely check it out here on bandcamp. Or, you can go to Whoa!boat Records website to order the vinyl (tis' the season for giving, capitalists!).
Anyway, back to the full length. Susan B and Elizabeth C is on the way. It has been mixed (by the great Alex Ferrin and the wonderful Brendan Silk), it is being mastered, and the whole record pressing process has begun. It is officially out of our hands. We're looking forward to releasing it as soon as we can, you'll be the first to know!
To hold you over til then, we are super excited to be working with Haze Tapes to release our original 5 song demo on cassette. This collection, which was previously referred to as Demo 2011, is now going to be its own release called Madge. This tape has some crowd favorites like the original clean-ish version of The Horses Got Out, as well as now rare-to-be-heard tracks like Come Clean and The Honest Ones. That's going to be available in January.
Last but not least, we are even MORE excited to be supporting Robby Cleary's new label N7E (next 7 exits). I should say that he is actually supporting us. Robby is making a statement that we're proud to be a part of in uniting all of Bellingham's best punk and metal bands under one roof; and getting them to record some choice cuts of bleeding-drunk, fist-pumping, skull-bashing good tunes. Bravo Robby, we'll have your back forever. Our contribution to this compilation will be one of two unreleased songs. Robby gets to pick, we'll see where he goes on it. 98 percent of the songs on this comp have been recorded by Michael Cloud, who is a bad ass in his own right. The comp is expected to be finished early to mid 2014.
Currently, we have been featured on another rad compliation. This one is a rad project to get a friend back on her feet called Songs For Sarah. Click to hear it, but any money received from that comp goes straight to Sarah. The comp was created by Sarah's brother, Benjamin King. That dude's one of a kind. Our contribution is an old song off of Victoria, "Nothing's Sacred (the weight of guilt)."
Until then,
Be nice, party hard!

april fool's fail.
The following is NOT something concocted for April fools. If it was, we'd be really terrible at April fools. I mean, yeah, we could tell you we're breaking up. Or we could tell you that we are teaming up with Detroit icon, and my personal hero Eminem. We're calling the project "Mirl Muts". You see, we're just not that funny. Plus, we'd rather not lie to you.
So here is some truth.
Girl Guts 4-way split is on the way! We're excited for Whoa! Boat's awesome involvement and getting this project brewed into existence. The experience has really gotten us super close with our friends in Caparza. They even bought me pizza once. They're a bunch of high class gentlemen. We have been given an expectation that that release will be no later than July 1st. The 7 in split will feature four songs (one song each) from four different bands; two from Bellingham and two from Seattle. Bellingham's side is represented by Girl Guts and Caparza. The Seattle side will be occupied by Death By Steamship and Ol' Doris!
We're going to tour! Lining up with the actual release date (at this time pending on the last week in June). We are going to take a trip down the I-5 corridor to help promote the album with Caparza, Death By Steamship, and Ol' Doris. We will hopefully make it all the way down to Olympia. We'll look forward to catching up with our friends in Full Moon Radio. We had a chance to play with them this past month, and we fell in love. If you have a moment, you owe it to yourself to check them out.
Speaking of tours, we're buying a van!!! Well, not yet anyway. We're earning money slowly but surely. So we just want to say thanks for buying shirts and paying cover to come to our shows. We love seeing our shirts all around town, its a real nice feeling.
Speaking of merch, more records!!! So we've been having consistent conversations with the guys over at Whoa!Boat Records about a 7 in release out late summer. This plan has been scrapped. Instead we're going to write and record a 12 song full length record. We are super excited. Sorry, I don't think that came across as intended. WE ARE SUPER EXCITED. We're going to work with Jeremy Magner again, since that guy is awesome. The album will include 9 or 10 new and/or unreleased songs and we are going to re-release 2 or 3 songs from Victoria. Let us know which songs we should get put on vinyl!
Friend news: Our buddies in The Palisades got a chance to head down to KEXP with Brent Cole of What's Up! Magazine and perform in studio. That performance was one of a kind. If you didn't get a chance to hear it, I'm sorry. Though, I wouldn't worry too much because these guys are set up for big big things. I'm sure you'll get a chance to hear them be amazing again. Word on the street is that while Brent was guest DJing, he threw our track on the air. So in return, our gratitude is thrown his way.
That's all for now!

2012 year in review. Upcoming in 2013
hey there! This blog is rarely touched, but that will change soon. In fact, it changes now! At the very least, I'm going to post here for a quarterly state of the union, as it refers to Girl Guts. I'm a bit late for a "year in review", but that's precisely what I'd like to talk about.
2012 was an amazing year for us. We are still in our infancy, and we are quickly growing and learning what it takes to be up on par with our favorite bands. We made our stand in 2012 with the help of our trusty home venue "The Lil' Wisconsin". We had an incredibly successful time causing ruckuses and playing some damn good music. In fact, all of the bands who have ever come through (save one or two) have been bands that we would love to play with again. We released an album. I heard from a little bird shaped like a spray painted beer can that you guys kinda liked it. For those just joining us, the spray painted beer can was the award you voted us to win at the 2012 Whats Up Awards Show for the "Best Smash Your Head on the Punk Rock" category. I can only imagine the year's success was your fault. So thank you.
Not to take all the credit to ourselves (in reference to getting us out there and heard), a HUGE thank you goes out to the following bands, venues, and people for their help in 2012: The Shakedown, The Cabin, Make.Shift, Yellingham, The Palisades, Rookery, The Cathoholix, Bowlcut, Caparza, Candysound, Creech, Totalizer Death By Steamship, Tori Schoone, Adrien Paulsen, Joe LeDoux, Nick Duncan, Toby Reif, Casey Nolan, Aaron Apple, Marty Watson, Hollie Huthman, David Ney, Luke and Ryan Greer, Jeff B, Tim Pennington, Whats Up Magazine, KUGS and countless others.
2013 is gearing up to be a huge year for us, personally and professionally. We are doing our best to keep our heads and hearts fixed on what we are: 3 friends making the best music we can, both recorded and performed. With Whoa! Boat records (Seattle, WA), we will be releasing two 7 inch records. One of them a 4 way split to be shared with some of our closest pals in Caparza and Death By Steamship. The 4th band, we've never officially met. But we did play a show with them and they are dynamite musicians. It is an easy statement to make to say that we are very excited. This release is expected in spring. Later on in the summer, we expect to release our own 7 inch record that will showcase all new and original Girl Guts material. We intend to plan several small west coast tours to promote the release(s). In addition to our talk of vinyl release, we are discussing several tape releases and alternate split projects with Haze Tapes (Bellingham, WA). We look forward to giving you more specific news on that front.
Thats all for now!
love you all,
Andy

CH CH CH CHANGES!!!!!
Hey all! Just a few updates! Our calender here says there is a show for Beer's Bday (that stallion of rock and thunder is turning 26) on the 30th. That has been altered because the 30th is a Monday, and honestly, why would anyone want to celebrate turning 26 on a Monday. So we switched it. On this year, 2012, Beer's birthday is Friday February 3rd!!! the ruckus begins at the Midwest Embassy (The Lil' Wisconsin) at 8. such rad bands as Bowlcut and Cathoholix will be in attendance! not to mention more to be unveiled, with twists as predictable as a M. Night Shyamalan movie!
see you there!
see you there!

Show Review (11/9/11)
The show at the Shakedown went very well. We were absolutely psyched to not only be able to see the Velvet Teen but also to share the stage with them in our hometown. They were having some technical difficulties at the beginning of their set but after a few songs they were as polished as could be. All in all it was a spectacular show by them. Bowlcut was also fantastic. High-test, rock'n'roll-punk just the way we like it. We can definitely foresee some more Girl Guts/Bowlcut shows in the near future. Look out world.
We are still trying to find some pictures of the show (if you have any please email them to us) once we have them we will post them here as well as on our facebook page. Also check our calendar tab for our upcoming shows. We have some exciting stuff on the horizon!
